Although Trinidad itself was beautiful, there was a downside to its popularity amongst tourists most people there expected money for pictures, in glaring contrast to my experience throughout the rest of the country. Generally I avoid situations where I am asked to pay for portraits (although I happily will send prints if asked), but in this case the sign on the burro made me laugh, so I decided to ante up. The question of whether or not to pay for the right to photograph someone is an issue that is difficult for many photographers, and one I havent really come to a strong conclusion about yet.
