The last battle of the Revolution took place in Santa Clara on December 31, 1958. Batista, the American supported dictator of Cuba, called for guns and soldiers to reinforce Havana as the Rebels moved inexorably across the country. Che and his compatriots, knowing that these reinforcements would be coming to Batistas aid, managed to force the supply train off its tracks and capture the much larger force of soldiers through a combination of careful planning and sheer bluffing. Without the guns and men he desperately needed to hold the capital, Batista fled that night to America and Castro marched victoriously into Havana on January 8th.
