El Capitolio at Night
Havana, Cuba
December 7, 2003

I admit it. I was pretty damn lazy this trip. Yeah, the tour itself was not conducive to photography in general, but I could have gone out in the mornings and evenings and shot a lot more than I did. Fortunately though, I managed to drag my lazy butt out on our second night in Havana to do a little night shooting, resulting in this fun picture of the Capitolio at night. In the foreground is one of the beautiful old American cars that Cuba is famous for. Due both to the embargo and the shortage of gas in the country, individuals are not allowed to buy new autos, making these old cars prized possessions. Necessity inspires Cuban mechanics to maintain these museum pieces in working order and many sport beautifully maintained exteriors as well.
