El Capitolio
Havana, Cuba
December 7, 2003

Completed in 1929 by the dictator Gerardo Machado, the Capitol building took three years and 8000 artisans to construct. It was based in part on the capitol building in Washington D.C. as well as the ornate halls of Versailles in France. It was the home of the government until the Revolution in 1959 and now houses the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment. The dome stands 300 ft high and is easily the most recognizable landmark in the city.
