Calle San Rafael
Havana, Cuba
December 6, 2003
A bit more wandering around the city center and I was definitely winding down for the evening. Havana is an amazing city, and a bit overwhelming for the first time visitor. (well, for this first-time visitor at least). So much to see, so many people, so much going on. The street hustlers were far more aggressive than anything I have run into before, and it took me a few days to get the hang of dealing with them. That first day I felt very young, very alone and much further away from home than I really was. Just crossing the streets seemed like a life-threatening proposition.
So it was with some relief that I saw the light fade and made my way back to the relative security of my hotel by way of Parque Central and Calle San Rafael for a quick dinner and a good night’s sleep.
