A Nice Place to Read
Gran Teatro de la Habana
Havana, Cuba
December 6, 2003

Once I got tired of dodging the salt spray, I came back up the Paseo del Prado and found myself looking up at the Gran Teatro de la Habana. Built in 1915 by Belgian architect Paul Belau, and now home to the Ballet Nacional and the famous Cuban ballet dancer Alicia Alonso, it is a marvelous building. The faηade is decorated with four sculpture groups by the Italian sculptor Giuseppe Moretti, one of which you see here. They depict Charity, Education, Music and Theater.
